” I want my paintings to tell a story “
Paula Shotell Artist
Artist Statement: “I want my paintings to tell a story. My vibrant colors and full brush strokes inspire me and bring me peace. I hope it inspires those that view my paintings as well. I love structure while painting figures, the telling of a story with street scenes, and the colors and mood of landscapes. Putting my impression of these and other subject matters onto canvas has become a passion; having the lines and colors come to life gives me great pleasure. I enjoy the entire process, from blank canvas to the transformation of my perception of life and objects.”
My inspiration: I grew up in Buffalo, NY, where I studied to be a nurse at_____. My first fasination with art was when I started drawing nude figures for anatomy class. I was intrigued with the human body in terms of drawing and painting. After raising two children I decided to follow my dream and embarked on my first serious painting class in 2003, realizing what has turned into a passion for painting.
My process: I like to paint from photographs taken from travel around the world, inspired by landscapes, city cafe´s, nature and people doing every day things. My preferred medium is oil on canvas. My style concentrates on figurative, abstract and impressionistic interpretations.
